RESEARCH ABSTRACT
Malaysia is one of the major producers/exporters of edible bird's nest (EBN), where in 2015, Malaysia exported 262.79 Metric Ton of EBN. It is projected that the EBN industry will contribute RM4.5 billion towards Malaysian GNI by year 2020. As a response to the government's aim, our team has developed a patented high solubility EBN hydro biopeptide (PI2015702798), where it has been proven to possess enhanced antioxidative and anti hypertension activities compared to the raw EBN. In this project, upscaled spray dried EBN hydro-biopeptides (50L capacity) has been produced (in place of freeze drying), and it was found that its physicochemical and bioactivities were not significantly different. The EBN hydro-biopeptides powder has been applied into food products, i.e., ready-to-drink beverages incorporated with EBN hydro-biopeptides.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
  1. To optimize the production of spray dried EBN hydro-biopeptide.
  2. To produce more samples for further analyses and development of product specification.
  3. To determine the effect of spray-drying towards the bioactivities of EBN hydro-biopeptide.
  4. To incorporate EBN hydro-biopeptide in food products as a model to EBN hydro-biopeptide application.

RESEARCH IMPACT
  1. Spray-drying of EBN hydro-biopeptides has negligible effects (compared to freeze-drying) once it is produced a larger scale.
  2. Future production of spray-dried EBN hydro-biopeptides at large scale is possible via Agridon Technologies Sdn Bhd.
  3. Due to the solubility of the prototype, its application is diverse.
