RESEARCH ABSTRACT
Recycling rate among developing nation is very low and the number of waste is increasing every day. Although many steps have been taken such as through national campaign, yet the recycle rate remains unchanged especially in Malaysia. Thus, the smart recycle bin is proposed to give a reward to public user who thrown the recyclable waste into the innovated smart recycle bin by giving points (later can be converted to money). The system consists of three parts which are bin processing unit (BPU), local data processing centre unit and web portal unit. The BPU consist of several sensors that responsible to collect the waste from user, automatically convert it to its corresponding point and save the transaction in the bin memory. Next, the local data unit is responsible to transfer the data from the BPU to the system server. Eventually, once the data is uploaded to serve the web portal unit is act as an interface for the user to view his/her current point. The system is expected to complete all the planned task with an acceptable functionality.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
  1. To design and fabricate an automated recycle bin in managing recyclable waste.
  2. To develop software/web-based and archive of an automated system in managing recyclable waste.
  3. To integrate software and hardware of an automated recycle system in managing recyclable waste.

RESEARCH IMPACT
This fully functional automated smart recycle bin is produced with sufficient future benefits for the users and authorities according to the specification that will be developed and fabricated by following the industrial standard measure. Furthermore, this product will also benefit the by emerging “waste to wealth” concept. In addition, It will also motivate and encourage Malaysians to recycle as they will be rewarded and eventually increase their awareness on the importance of waste recycling.
