UNIVERSITY: UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PERLIS (UNIMAP)
CLUSTER: INDUSTRY EQUIPMENT
NOVELTY OF PRODUCT :
The research activities involved were first, the processing of natural fibre, and then mixing an optimum formulation biocomposite pellet and finally manufacturing using injection moulding and thermoforming or any kind of plastic moulding machine. A process for preparing a biocomposite material wherein the process comprises of the modification lignocelluloses fiber using monomer and alkaline treatment, additional anhydride group during blending and might need exposed to electron wave to produce active radicals. The process also involves blending the modified lignocelluloses fiber and modified polymer and adding a functionalized reactive additive to crosslink the said composite material.
FEATURES OF PRODUCT :
Lightweight, cost effective, Eco friendly material and reduce carbon foot print.
IMPACT OF THE PRODUCT :
The natural fibres are nonabrasive to processing equipment and carbon neutral when burned besides being able to be incinerated and cost less. The hollow tubular structure of the natural fibres also reduces their bulk density and makes them lightweight.
TARGET MARKET :
Techology Depository Agency under MIGHT has identified composite as one of their focus industries. Composites have been used in a wide range of applications in Malaysia and contributes to growth in a diverse range of industry value chains from utilities through to boat building, car manufacturing and industrial applications, aerospace, consumer products and construction products.
The industry generally can be categorised by the markets that use composite products such as consumer composites, industrial composites and advanced composites.
